The Galvan Foundation addresses Hudson’s diverse social needs by partnering with local organizations,
providing grants to area nonprofits, and planning programs that directly serve community residents.

Social Initiatives

Galvan Foundation is achieving widespread impact in Columbia County, investing over $30 million to create and preserve:

  • 225 units of scattered site mixed-income housing and special needs housing in historic buildings and a 25-room motel meeting emergency housing needs in collaboration with Columbia County Department of Social Services
  • Galvan Armory, a unique community center in a historic armory hosting Hudson Area Library, Hudson Senior Center, Perfect Ten Afterschool, and soon COARC’s The Starting Place Day Care Center
  • 70,000 square feet of commercial and community facility space in historic buildings and neighborhoods, including space for Bard Early College Hudson, Columbia Opportunities, Rolling Grocer 19, Northern Rivers Family Services, National Young Farmers Coalition, and Berkshire Farms Center & Services
  • Commercial spaces for ten small businesses, including restaurants, art galleries, retailers, a grocery store, and a publishing company
  • A grantmaking program providing over $3,000,000 to local nonprofit organizations
  • A Home Improvement Program providing $200,000 of grants per year to homeowners for making essential repairs
  • A Foreclosure Prevention Program preventing 15 foreclosures per year
  • Galvan Graduation Program, a partnership with Columbia Greene Community College providing over $50,000 in scholarships and academic supports to economically disadvantaged college students

Galvan Armory is a community center providing a comprehensive array of educational and social services in a single location, including Hudson Area Library, Hudson Senior Center, Perfect Ten Afterschool Program, and soon The Starting Place childcare center.
